Before you start
Barfwise is an educational tool, not veterinary advice
Placeholder wording โ pending review by the product owner and, where required, a veterinary professional. Not final.
This is not veterinary advice
Barfwise compares a recipe you enter against published nutrient reference values. It does not know your animal. It cannot see a health condition, a medication, a pregnancy, an allergy, or a body condition score. Talk to your veterinarian before changing what your animal eats, and especially before feeding a home-prepared diet long term.
Where the numbers come from, and what they cannot tell you
Nutrient requirements follow FEDIAF (2025) for adult dogs and cats, growing puppies and kittens, and senior dogs. Ingredient composition comes mainly from the USDA FoodData Central database. Both are averages. The chicken thigh in your kitchen is not the chicken thigh in a database, and the difference is real. Treat every figure here as an estimate.
Raw feeding carries its own risks
Raw meat can carry bacteria that affect both animals and the people handling it. Bones can injure. Barfwise checks nutrient coverage only โ it makes no judgement about food safety, hygiene, or whether raw feeding suits your animal at all.
Your decisions remain yours
You are responsible for what you feed your animal. Barfwise is provided as-is, without warranty, and its authors accept no liability for outcomes arising from its use.
